Christian Faith Leaders Stand in Support of Amendment 1
Christians say obedience to God’s Word and love lead them to vote YES
Minneapolis, MN – Pastors for Marriage, a member group of the coalition Minnesota for Marriage, today announced that over 500 Christian pastors and leaders have endorsed Amendment 1, the marriage protection amendment. These 500+ Christian faith leaders represent Minnesota Assemblies of God, Lutheran, nondenominational, Baptist, minority, Presbyterian, Catholic, and other churches. They outline how their faith will guide them to vote YES on Amendment 1.
Pastor Steve Goold of New Hope Church stated: “As the author and architect of marriage, God has spoken clearly that marriage is to be between a man and a woman. These are unique and urgent times that shout the need to prevent the almost incomprehensible destruction that will come to society if that definition is permitted to be conveniently altered through the legal process. Bottom line for me as a Pastor—vote, vote yes, and enthusiastically encourage others to do the same. This is right and good.”
This statement, The Christian Vote on the Minnesota Marriage Protection Amendment, follows yesterday’s announcement by Billy Graham who stated that he “wholeheartedly endorse[s]” Amendment 1.
These 500+ Christian faith leaders joined together to state that their love for God, His Word, and their neighbor lead them to vote YES on Amendment 1. Reverend Don Fondow, President of The Minnesota North District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, explains: “The union of a man and a woman is a good gift designed by God to be the foundation for society and the continuation of the human race. Thus, the promotion and protection of marriage is a matter of the common good and serves the wellbeing of the couple, of children, of civil society and all people.”

Sergio Amezcua, Pastor of Igelesia “Dios Habla Hoy” Brooklyn Park Evangelical Free Church, continued: “As pastors and followers of Christ we are here to honor God; we are called to show the love and mercy of God without dishonoring Him. We stand by the Word of God. This is not a political case for us but a spiritual and moral case.”
The Christian Vote on the Minnesota Marriage Protection Amendment joins similar statements and other overwhelming support for Amendment 1 in the Christian community. In early 2012, both the Minnesota South District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) and the North District LCMS, representing at total of 449 congregations, passed a resolution in support of Amendment 1.
Greg Hickle, Secretary/Treasurer of the Minnesota District Council Assemblies of God, also issued the following statement: “The Assembly of God churches have signed on in full agreement with the Minnesota Marriage Protection Amendment. The statement on marriage has been signed by over 240 churches which represent over 800 pastors and faith leaders.”
KTIS (98.5), Minnesota’s predominant Christian radio station is also daily encouraging its listeners, an audience of hundreds of thousands per week, to vote YES on Amendment 1.
